Summer on the Chain Bridge

June 21st to August 17th 2008
"The longest festival"

Budapest, in Summer, presents its most beautiful self to beguile the tourists as they walk along the Chain Bridge. Each weekend there is an ecletic cultural mix, as the bridge is turned into a place only for those on foot. Walkers are presented with a selection of craft, folk arts and other resources from which to choose. If they become tired, they can take their rest with a cold drink and watch the music being performed on one of the stages. As they take in the stage perfromances alongside the Danube's restful beauty, they will slowly realize that they really don't want to return home.

Events:

June 28-29. - the Chain Bridge is turned into a stage. Attila Dolhai , an artist from the Budapest Operetta Theatre, will ensure that the audience will enjoy the uplifting effects of the theatre. It is said that not only will you be able to hear and see artists from the Operetta Theatre perform, but also those from the Márka, Jozsef Attila and Örkény Theatres will be on the programme.

On the first weekend in July world music will resound from the Chain Bridge. Palya Bea has suggested that in her personal opinion the bridge is her favourite symbol as it stands for building friendships. Here you can expect Etno Rom, the Electric Zuboly Orchestra and, naturally, Palya Bea — for all those interested in the multifaceted nature of music..

The 'performers' weekend is on July the 12th and 13th. During which you can see entertainers, musicians and clowns performing a wide variety of acts to entertain the whole family. A week later one can see performances that defies easy definition as they cross many traditional boundaries, such as Szirtes Edina 'Squirrel' and other musicians.

At the end of July Jazz music takes the centre stage with Fekete-Kovács Kornél. Jazz became internationally renowned in the 1920's. From then on it has continuously redefined the boundaries of music possibilities all over the world, having a particularly important effect on the development of music. The Modern Art Orchestra, alongside the Dés András trio, the Balázs Elemer Group and countless other famous names can be heard on July the 26th and 27th.

In the heat of the first weekend in August, on the 2nd and 3rd, we suggest you enjoy the light music at Marót Viki street. This is followed by two days of classical music on August the 9th and 10th. Boldoghy Kummert hopes that this will be a seriously good celebration of (serious) classical music. Finally, on August the 16th and 17th, at one and the same time, in Buda Castle the organising parties will celebrate the end of the festival, the Summer and the closing of the Bridge with the national orchestra's singer Szokolay Dongó Balázs, who will, according to tradition, lead the audience in an 'imaginery exploration of the past'.
