Budapest City Council approves the bid for the 2024 Olympics

Budapest, June 23, 2015 (EFE) .- The municipal council of Budapest today approved the Hungarian capital is presented as a candidate to host the 2024 Olympic Games, a project that now has to be endorsed by the Government and Parliament of country.
With 25 votes in favor and one against, the green party LMP, the council authorized the mayor, István Tarlós, to nominate by the Hungarian Olympic Committee (MOB).
Budapest's candidacy must now be approved by the Government and Parliament, which is also expected to have broad support.
According to a report commissioned by the MOB, the organization of the Olympic Games would cost 2,480 million euros and generate revenues of 3,500 million.
MOB President Zsolt Borkai said today that the International Olympic Committee "has ended the giant Olympics" and that other cities will join the host city, so that "the whole country could organize the Games".
To date, Hamburg (Germany), Rome (Italy) and Boston (United States) have also announced their desire to host the Games in 2024, and is expected to do well today Paris.
The official deadline for nominations expires on September 15 and the International Olympic Committee announced in the summer of 2017 which city will host the 2024 Olympics.
The Hungarian capital was presented to host the Olympic Games in 1960 but his candidacy received a single vote in favor.
In recent years there was speculation the possibility of trying to host the Olympics in 2016 and 2020, but never formalized a project.
